FAQs
The Florida Association of Child Life Professionals (FACLP) is a nonprofit organization dedicated to supporting, educating, and advocating for Child Life Professionals throughout Florida. We provide learning resources, networking, and career opportunities to enhance the field of child life services, so we can better provide for children and their families in need.
There are currently only about 4000 Child Life Specialists in the nation. Our goal is to continue to grow in our field.
The FACLP began in 1991 by a group of individuals who wanted a space where they could give a voice to child life professionals in Florida, allowing us to provide the best care we can to children and their families.
As a nonprofit organization, we accept donations so we can provide resources, enhance training, and advocate for Child Life Professionals in Florida and the children and families experiencing hardships. To donate, please visit our Donation page.
A Certified Child Life Specialist (CCLS) is a professional that helps children and their families during hardships, especially in healthcare settings. They prepare, educate, distract, play, and provide coping strategies to make children and their families feel as comfortable as possible.
There are four main steps to becoming a Certified Child Life Specialist (CCLS). The first is obtaining a bachelor’s degree in any field and completing the relevant coursework. You will then do a clinical internship under the supervision of a CCLS followed by an assessment to verify you are ready for the exam. The last step is completing and passing the Child Life Certification Exam.
